The November weather was kind and the Weybrook course was in good condition for Bunkers 250th event since its formation in 2000. This was also the final event in Bunkers annual “Order of Merit” contest in which players total their six best event points (out of the ten events). The finale had the makings of a very tight finish with Tony Peters leading Nick Rothery by only one point with Ian Turvill a few points back in third place. All to play for !

However Nick Rothery smashed it with 41 Stableford points to win the Order of Merit and the Weybrook event. He also won a nearest the pin prize - so quite a day for Nick !!! John Thorp finished second in the Weybrook field with 39 Stableford points.

Dinner was lovely Steak Pie, Mash, Carrots and some (undercooked) green beans which were a chewing challenge. Desert was sponge with custard and artistic chocolate sauce swirls.

Captain Dave Shorter was lenient with the fines. Ian T was fined for hitting the telegraph pole on the 3rd fairway and for some frustrated club dumping. Nick was fined for playing stupendous recovery shots from the wrong fairways. Frazer fined for standing in a stream of water to play his shot on the 14th hole. Darren was fined for buying a course planner !!

A great day to finish Bunkers competitive season with just the “Christmas Bash” at Test Valley in December to wrap up the 2025 season.

The weekend away trip to East Sussex National to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the society on Captain's Day was a success. The weather was fine and sunny with a mild breeze. The Goring & Streatley course was in absolutely first class condition. The fairways allowed the ball to run as did the greens which had some tricky pin positions and wicked slopes. Special mention to the wild flower areas beyond the fairway first cut - avoid them at all costs - very pretty and good for wildlife but lethal for losing golf balls ! The clubhouse was very welcoming and the food was great. An unusual meal choice was available and it was delicious. Monkfish tail with new potatoes, samphire, red peppers and tomatoes (well done chef) followed by fruit crumble and custard. Top marks to G & S

The scoring was "HOT" with eight of the twelve players recording scores of 36 points or more. In fact four players finished on 36 points and Ian Turvill rightly felt aggrieved to finish in eighth place on countback. 36 points would have won the same event last year !

Skill nearest the pin prizes were won by Tony Peters ( 3" from a hole in one)

Rick Britton and Nick Rothery (two skill prizes !).

Nick was on very fine form and his playing partners reported his putting was very impressive so it's not a surprise to report he won the event with 43 points gaining his first ever Bunker Trophy. Second place to David Beck on 40 points and 3rd place to Rick Britton with 38 points. Tony Peters was presented an engraved whisky glass to commemorate his 150th Bunkers event (first one was in 2004).

Captain Dave Shorter had a short list of fines but as usual Steve Walsh was generous with his misdemeanour's, bad card marking (Mark Bilsborough too), hitting his 4th shot out of a gorse bush 2ft off the ground and failing, Steve also ate 4 portions of cake at lunchtime and had green knees gained keeling in the grass ! Tony Peters fined for not getting a hole-in-one and also for getting close on every par three. Nick Rothery fined for playing like a proper Bandit.

Nick receiving the winners trophy from Captain Dave.

A very hot and breezy day for Bunker's May competition. The Calcot Park course fairways were very dry after the recent rainless weather and produced some unexpected sideways bounces. The greens were very tricky to putt on and many players found it wasn't difficult to putt off the green ! These were very challenging conditions and a number of unusually low stableford scores were recorded.

Nevertheless cream always rises to the top and first place went to Paul Healy with 38 points. Second Nick Rothery on 35 points followed by Frazer Webb in third on 34 points beating Phil Richards and Ian Turvill on countback. Strongest man James McPhail faced very stiff competition from a number of players but managed to secure his last position with poor putting on the final green.

Paul Healy, Phil Richards, John Furness and Nick Rothery won "Nearest The Pin" prizes.

As usual Captain Dave Shorter was in "FINE" form collecting £1 forfeits from the players.
John Furness for not securing his bag to the buggy - it fell off as they drove off the 1st Tee. He was also fined for blobbing 6 consecutive holes and then for playing the wrong ball and for wearing trainers to dinner - something he strongly denied saying they were "Sketchers" - he was fined nevertheless.
John Thorpe, fined for using artificial aids (a knee bandage). Darren Anderson for mistakenly playing off the white tee on 14.
Tony Peters for not shouting "Fore" on the 16th and letting the ball dribble through to tap Mark Bilsborough on the shoe.
Phil Richards for arriving early to practice ! James McPhail for wearing a cap in the clubhouse and phone use on the course.
Darren (Of Arabia) Anderson playing through a bunker and getting the ball 2 ft from the pin and an additional fine for playing 6 bunker shots in the first three holes.
Mark Bilsborough for hitting a birdie (actually it was a goose - that recovered immediately) and for wearing denim type shorts.
Ian Turvill for losing his phone holder. Paul S for playing into the 6th ditch 3 times and sitting down at dinner before the captain.
Tony Peters fined for chipping and putting four times through the 9th green.
Dave Shorter fined himself £10 for putting in an incorrect score at the last event and the another £1 for hitting his tee shot on the 1st hole 7 yards left into and through a bush.
Frazer Webb and Michael Prevost for not understanding what a "false front" on a green does (repeatedly).
Finally Paul Healy was fined for not missing a fairway throughout his 18 holes.

Paul not receiving the winners trophy from Captain Dave - the trophy was unavoidably detained elsewhere so Captain presented Paul with a jock strap instead! Apparently it does hold two balls!
