Meeting Minutes: 6th December 2018


Venue: Pine Ridge Golf Course Club House



Present:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting on the 5th March 2018 were accepted. Dave Shorter proposed, Luke Peters seconded, carried unanimously.

2. Captain's Report - Paul Healy:
Paul Healy enjoyed his successful year as Captain. The Captains Day and the Masters weekend at The Vale were well attended. Two other events during the year were not so well attended but this year we had more guests joining us. Paul gave special thanks to Ian T., Frazer W. and Dave S. for their support.

3. Treasurer's Report - Chris Turvill:
The Society has done well this year and made a small profit, although a loss was budgeted for. The main reasons are due to the continued generous fines contribution and the deals being done on the inexpensive organisers days (eg. 4 of Bunkers play at the clubs for £25 per head which the club then discounts off our final bill ) We have also had a couple of events where the "Organiser goes free".

4. Handicap Secretary's Report - Chris Turvill:
Throughout the year no very high scores have been recorded which shows that the handicap algorithm is working well.

5. Fixtures Secretary's Report - Ian Turvill:
In 2018 we had budgeted for a loss but as per comments from Treasurer we actually made a small profit. For 2019 we are budgeting to have a loss of £700.00 based on a golf day fee of £40.00.

6. Election of Officers:
Captain:
As was notified, Paul Healy has stepped down. Dave Shorter indicated his willingness to serve as Captain. Proposed: John Thorp Seconded: Dave Flavell. Approved

Vice Captain:
Paul Beard indicated his willingness to serve as Vice Captain and Fines Master. Proposed: Dave Shorter Seconded: Paul Healy. Approved

The following committee positions were agreed by acclamation:

Fixture Secretary:
Ian Turvill.

Chris Turvill.

7. Any Other Business:
A. Social media Contributions
Although Mark Turvill is happy to coordinate, we are reactive at the moment. Mark needs the help of members to supply on-course pictures and information. Ideas are needed and each member should actively consider how they can contribute more.

B. New Rules Of Golf
The R & A will be introducing 20 new rules for the 2019 season. 19 of these will be incorporated into the playing rules for Bunkers Members. The Rule concerning maximum allowable handicaps will not be incorporated.

C. Ryder Cup style competition against another local Society
We have been approached by The Silly Billies Golf Society from the King William IV pub in West Horsley. They have suggested that we could do a Ryder Cup style competition between the 2 societies. Although the committee initially liked the idea it was agreed by the meeting that, given the time pressures already on most members for mid week games, the invitation would be declined with thanks. The Secretary was directed to convey this to the Silly Billies.
